Debt Collections Fact Number 1
In 2008, our nation suffered one of the worst economic setbacks in modern history. The housing bubble had burst and people were losing their jobs, homes and unemployment was on the rise. We are still picking up the pieces and hundreds of thousands of people remain out of work!
In time, we found out that major lenders like Freddie Mac and Sallie Mae had gone into the sub-prime home lending industry and had started giving loans to people who should not have been given loans and could not have kept the loan payments current. The major lenders knowingly did this with the full knowledge that people would go into default!
When the housing bubble burst and these major lenders faced bankruptcy, our Federal Government bailed these lending institutions out of desperation to prevent a world wide economic collapse. In short, these lending institutions received a bailout from our Federal Government and this occurred despite massive national protests by voters and non-voters alike. Our politicians refused to listen to their constituents and bailed the banks out!
Our Government also enacted a program called Quantitative Easing in which more currency is being printed in an attempt to keep our economy fluid with cash. Interest Rates have been lowered to such a point that now it would no longer have an effect on our economies health if they tried lowering interest rates further. Other countries have also implemented their own Quantitative Easing Programs as well. The United States is not the only country that has been doing this!
What is not well known is the fact that while the housing bubble was in full swing. The major lending companies were purchasing the smaller well established independent Collection Agencies and began collection actions on the very people they gave sub-prime loans too!
This is still going on!
What is not well known is the fact that the major lending companies setup shell companies that purchased bad loans, from themselves, for pennies on the dollar, then began collection actions on the most vulnerable people in our society. The very same people that they first gave the sub-prime and other questionable loans too!
This is still going on!
Nobody asked just how the major lending institutions - who had faced bankruptcies; who were too big to fail; who received Federal Bailouts; nobody asked how was it that these major institutions were able to make record breaking profits so quickly!
Now you know!

All Good Home Improvements
Comment: Began receiving multiple telemarketing calls from this company. Tracy in the telemarketing department told me that they were really nice people. I have never done business with this company and am on the National Do Not Call List. I wouldn't ask this company to change a light bulb!

Credit Card Services
Comment: A company calling themselves Credit Card Services has been spoofing their phone numbers. I have received their calls from 407-565-9999 & 503-902-8479, they use other numbers as well. I pretended to be an old man and kept the caller tied up for over 19 minutes. This company will not identify themselves, are very rude and pretend that they will lower your credit card payments. "Gloria" talked about how trustworthy she is, she talked about God, she talked about her cats... all three of them. She hung-up on me out of frustration and then called back pretending to have phone problems. Called me an idiot, said I was stupid while asking me to trust her.

Telemarketers ignoring Federal Do Not Call List
Comment: It looks like a company called VMS is the one that calls for Alarm Systems made by GE and ADT. My next door neighbor had ADT and it seemed like service trucks were out to her place every other month. Her alarm system was constantly going off and as abusive as they were to their sales people... I just wouldn't recommend ADT to anyone.
Based on my experience, ADT uses telemarketers that ignore the Federal Do Not Call List!

FTC: International Bogus Debt Collector Phone Scam Swindles Millions From US Residents
Comment: The more ignorant a person is about telemarketers and the harm they cause, the worse the advice that they provide! Telling people to just hangup on telemarketers didn't help the over 10,000 US residents who had Five-Million Dollars stolen from them by over 17,000 transactions.
The Federal Do Not Call Laws did not stop the 20 million calls which have been placed over the past two years, from collectors demanding between $300 and $2,000 per call.
